The statue is printed on many brochure of Kagoshima trips. Saigo Takamori is the great contributor of Meiji Restoration. Many people in Kagoshima have loved him. For example, my grandmother put his portrait at home.

Statue of Saigo
He is the hero of Kagoshima Prefecture and Japan. The height of the statue is 5,257 mm.
The statue stands next to Tsurumaru Castle which was the political center of Satsuma Domain.
Thick eyebrow and large eyes make him very handsome and manly. He puts in military wear. I took the following video to look closely his face.
The mountain behind the statue is Mt. Shiroyama, which was the final battle field of Seinan Civil War in 1877. Saigo ended his life at the battle.
Route no.10 runs in front of the statue. There is the place across the road where you can take good picture of yourself and the statue. (2 girls are taking photos at the following picture)
You can use Kagoshima City View Bus of rental bicycles “Kagorin” to come to see the picture.
Travel information station is available next to the statue.

Information of Saigo Statue
Access
Take Kagoshima City View Bus and get off at “Saigo Takamori Dozo Mae” (about 10 minutes). Fee is 190 yen for adult and 100 yen for children, but 1 day free pass (600 yen for adult, 300 yen for children) is also available.
Parking lot
There are some coin parking lots near the stature. Parking at the underground of Chuo Koen Park is the closest to the stature.
