Mt. Kaimon (Kaimondake)

Mr. Kaimon is located in the south of Kyushu Island, Japan.

Because of its beautiful shape, the mountain is sometimes called “Mt. Fuji of Satsuma Peninsula”

The mountain is listed in the best 100 mountains in Japan!


Details of Mt. Kaimon

The height is 924 m above sea level.

It takes about 2.5 hours to climb up to the top.

It is common that people climb to the second station on the path of the mountain by car.


History of Mt. Kaimon

It stopped eruption in the 9th century.  Since then the mountain a dormant volcano.

At the end of world war 2, Kamikaze special air force was organized.

After they left Chiran base, they firstly headed to Mt. Kaimon and circle the mountain.

The shape of Mt. Kaimon is very similar to that of Mt. Fuji, which is the representative mountain in Japan.

By circling the Mt. Kaimon, they paid final respects to Japanese land and their family.


How to Go to Mt. Kaimon

It takes about an 1.5 hours by car.

You can park the car at the entrance of trail-head for free of charge.
