What is SATSUMA-AGE?

SATSUMA-AGE is the traditional food in Kagoshima.

It is the deep-fried fish paste. It is a kind of Tempura and fried Kamaboko.

Usually Satsuma-Age are made of more than 2 kinds of fishes such as sardine, shark, bonito and mackerel and

It is flavored with salt and sugar.

 

How to Enjoy Satuma-Age

Many local people enjoy eating Satuma-Age while drinking alcohol such as Shochu in Kagoshima, Japan.

You can dip Satsuma-Age in soy-source before eating it.

Many Japanese dishes are served with Satsuma-Age as toppings.

Many Kinds of Satsuma-Age

Satsma-Age has many kinds of shapes such as round, square or stick.

Except for fishes, ingredients sometimes include sea foods (squid, octopus, shrimp), vegetables (vinegar, onion, garlic).

 

Where to Eat?

Satsuma-Age is sold at many souvenir shops such as Kagoshima Airport and Kagoshima-Chuo Station.

The most famous shop is called Satsma-Ya just in front of the Yamakataya Department Store.

You can buy various kinds of Satsuma-Age and eat in the shop.

Please take tram at the Kagoshima-Chuo Station and get off at Izuro-Dori Station.
