This is a tourist map of Iōjima (Mishima Village, Kagoshima Prefecture).

It is a small island with a population of just around 120 to 130 people.

The spectacular outdoor bath, “Higashi Onsen,” is a top recommended spot. There are also other breathtaking spots and historical sites, such as the Heike clan’s fugitive legend.

It’s the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and spend a leisurely, relaxing time.

Access to Iōjima

By Plane

It takes about 50 minutes by plane from Kagoshima Airport.

Ferry Mishima

It takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes from Kagoshima City.

Tourist Spots on Iōjima

The island is not very large, so you can visit all the major spots in a day.

Higashi Onsen

For outdoor bath enthusiasts, this is a must-visit hidden gem you should experience at least once in a lifetime!

Sakamoto Onsen

It’s more like a pool than an onsen, or perhaps a mix of both…

Koibito Cape

This romantic cape is located on a steep cliff.

Heike Castle Observatory

This is the place where the Heike clan’s fugitives, defeated in the Battle of Dan-no-ura, monitored their pursuers.

Kumano Shrine

This is a splendid shrine within a settlement said to be the residence of Emperor Antoku.

The center of mountain worship in Mishima Village.

Shunkando & Shunkanjou

The legend of Shunkon, the tragic monk exiled to Iōjima due to the Kagakuya Conspiracy.
