Bonotsu had been the main port to the outside world from the ancient era to the Edo Period.
It is said “Bonotsu” literally means “port of priests”.
Some famous priest arrived here.
Buddhist priest “Ganjin” came here from China in 754.
Catholic priest “Xavier” came here from China in 1549.
Also, Bonotsu had been a base of the Japanese pirates.
Winding shoreline enabled secret trading with Okinawa and other countries.
This beautiful shoreline has kept people fascinated until now.
