What is Rokugatsudo Festival?
Many shrines at Kagoshima and some parts of Miyazaki Prefecture hold Rokugatsudo Festival in July.
During Edo period, Shimadzu Mitsuhisa, ruler of Satsuma Domain, contributed a lantern to a temple at Kagoshima City.
General people followed this custom and started to donate lanterns to local temples. This is said to be the origin of Rokugatsudo.
